About Deroplatys lobata Guerin-Meneville, 1838
Deroplatys lobata is a mantis species that mimics dead leaves. Adult females measure between 65 and 70 millimeters in length, while adult males reach approximately 45 millimeters. First instar nymphs grow up to 15 millimeters in length, and second instar nymphs reach around 21 millimeters when their abdomens are expanded. Their body color ranges from dark gray to light mottled gray, and many individuals have a faint pinkish flush across the head and thorax. This species has a broad prothorax that looks ripped and crumpled, similar to a dead leaf. Starting as early as the 4th instar stage, females have a wider prothoracic shield than males. Males have a slender body and a diamond-shaped prothoracic shield. Deroplatys lobata lives on the ground among dead leaves and bushes in damp tropical forest habitats.
