It is native to the Amazon Basin, with confirmed presence in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, and Suriname; its presence in Venezuela is unconfirmed. This is a widespread, locally common species that occurs near water across a wide range of tropical habitats. No significant threats to this species are currently known.
