About Dendronotus lacteus (W.Thompson, 1840)

Dendronotus lacteus is a species of sea slug, specifically a dendronotid nudibranch. It is a shell-less marine gastropod mollusc that belongs to the family Dendronotidae.

This species was described from a specimen collected at the entrance to Strangford Lough, Northern Ireland, in the Irish Sea. For a long time, it was treated as a synonym of Dendronotus frondosus. In 2000, Thollesson distinguished it as a separate species using the allozyme electrophoresis technique. This separation was confirmed by DNA sequencing in 2015. Dendronotus lacteus is found in waters ranging from the Irish Sea northward to Spitsbergen, Franz Josef Land, and the Barents Sea.
