About Dendrolimus superans (Butler, 1877)

Dendrolimus superans (Butler, 1877) has a wingspan ranging from 60 to 102 mm. Its body colour varies from light yellowish brown or light grey to dark brown, and can also be almost black. Two dark stripes cross the forewings, and a white spot is located at the centre of each forewing. This species is distributed in Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China, Russia, Korea and Japan. The full life cycle of this species takes between two and four calendar years to complete. Its populations follow a repeating cycle: populations slowly grow over several years until they reach an outbreak peak, then collapse afterwards.
