About Dendrodoris nigra (W.Stimpson, 1855)

Dendrodoris nigra can reach a body length of up to 7 cm (70 mm). Its body is black, sometimes marked with cream or white spots. Its rhinophores have an elongated white knob at the tip. The edge of its mantle is frilly, and the rest of its body is very soft and slimy. This species may also have a red or pink marginal or submarginal border along its body.

This species inhabits the eulittoral zone, where it lives under rocks and boulders. It can be found on coral rubble, gravel, algal beds, or shelly sand in sheltered bays, and occurs in tropical to warm temperate waters.

Its distribution ranges from the West Indian Ocean and Red Sea to the western Pacific Ocean, across the tropical Indo-Pacific region.
