About Dendrodoris caesia (Bergh, 1907)
Dendrodoris caesia, commonly known as the blue-speckled nudibranch, is a large nudibranch species that has a frilly body margin. Its body is covered in speckles, which can be almost continuous across the surface; some individuals even have pink speckles instead of blue. This species has perfoliate rhinophores, and a large gill rosette with a blue edge. Fully grown specimens can reach a total length of 120 mm. To date, this species has only been found along the southern African coast, ranging from the Cape Peninsula to Port Elizabeth. It occurs subtidally to depths of at least 20 m, and is considered likely endemic to this region. Dendrodoris caesia feeds on yellow-brown sponges. Its egg mass forms an irregular ribbon arranged in several whorls.
