About Dendrobium gracilicaule F.Muell.
Dendrobium gracilicaule F.Muell. is an epiphytic or lithophytic herb. It produces cylindrical yellowish green pseudobulbs that are 40โ100 cm (20โ40 in) long and 4โ13 mm (0.2โ0.5 in) wide, with each pseudobulb growing between three and seven leaves at its top. The leaves are thin and dark green, measuring 70โ130 mm (3โ5 in) long and 20โ40 mm (0.8โ2 in) wide. The flowering stem is 50โ150 mm (2โ6 in) long, and holds between five and thirty often drooping flowers. The flowers range in color from cream-colored to yellow or greenish, and measure 10โ16 mm (0.39โ0.63 in) in both length and width. One variety of this species has large reddish blotches on the back of its flowers. The sepals are 7โ10 mm (0.3โ0.4 in) long and 3โ4 mm (0.12โ0.16 in) wide, and they are relatively thick and fleshy. The petals are 7โ10 mm (0.3โ0.4 in) long and 3โ4 mm (0.1โ0.2 in) wide. The labellum is 7โ10 mm (0.3โ0.4 in) long and 5โ6 mm (0.20โ0.24 in) wide, and it has three lobes. The side lobes curve upwards, the middle lobe is kidney-shaped, and the middle lobe bears three wavy ridges. Flowering of Dendrobium gracilicaule occurs between July and September.
