About Dendrobates truncatus (Cope, 1861)

The yellow-striped poison frog, scientifically named Dendrobates truncatus (Cope, 1861), is a species of frog in the family Dendrobatidae. This species is endemic to Colombia. This diurnal frog inhabits wet, humid, and dry tropical forests. It has also been recorded in disturbed areas including banana plantations, though it does not occur in areas that have been fully cleared. It can be found at elevations ranging from 100 to 1800 meters above sea level. For reproduction, female yellow-striped poison frogs lay their eggs on the ground. After the eggs hatch, adult frogs carry the hatched tadpoles to pools of still water.
