About Dendarus coarcticollis (Mulsant, 1854)

Dendarus coarcticollis (Mulsant, 1854) is a species of darkling beetle that belongs to the subfamily Tenebrioninae of the family Tenebrionidae. This species can mainly be found in France and Italy. Adult Dendarus coarcticollis reach a length of 12 to 13 millimetres, which equals 0.47 to 0.51 inches. Males of this species have larger front legs than females, a form of sexual dimorphism. These terrestrial beetles are often dirty and slippery, and the larger front legs let males hold onto the backs of females more effectively. Dendarus coarcticollis is nocturnal, and typically overwinters under the bark of old trees.
