About Delphinium uliginosum Curran
Delphinium uliginosum is a species of larkspur that goes by the common names swamp larkspur and bog larkspur. It is endemic to California, where it only occurs in highly localized populations in the Inner North Coast Ranges. It grows in chaparral, grassland, and other hillside habitats, typically on serpentine soils. This plant is a perennial herb that grows an erect, hairless stem reaching up to 70 centimeters tall. It can be recognized by its fan-shaped leaves, a trait that is unique among larkspurs; most larkspurs have palmate leaves with narrow, fingerlike lobes. Its inflorescence can hold up to 45 flowers, each borne on an upright pedicel that may grow longer than 10 centimeters. The flowers are blue, with the longest sepals measuring 1.4 centimeters long, and a spur of approximately the same length. Its fruit reaches between one and two centimeters in length.
