About Delphinium purpusii Brandegee

Delphinium purpusii Brandegee is a rare larkspur species that is commonly called Kern County larkspur and rose-flowered larkspur. It is endemic to California, and is only found in Kern and Tulare Counties, in the area where the Sierra Nevada meets the Mojave Desert. It grows on rocky cliffs and talus. This wildflower grows to between 0.5 and 1 meter tall. Its thin, erect stem has deeply lobed leaves clustered around the base, and a small, narrow inflorescence holding 10 to 20 flowers at the stem's top. The flowers are bright pink, which is unusual for the Delphinium genus, where most species bear blue flowers. Its sepals curl either forward or backward.
