About Delphinium madrense S.Watson

Delphinium madrense S.Watson produces stems that grow 30 to 80 centimeters long. The stem base is often reddish and covered in fine, short hairs (puberulent). This species has both basal leaves that grow from the base of the plant and cauline leaves that grow along the stem. At anthesis (when flowering), plants have between 0 and 8 basal leaves, and between 3 and 11 cauline leaves. Leaf blades are shaped either like a semicircle or a cordate heart shape. The flowering inflorescence holds 5 to 75 individual flowers. Flower sepals are colored anywhere from dark blue to light blue; flowers can also be white as well as blue. The lower petal blades are held in an elevated position. Fruits of this species are follicles that measure 15 to 21 millimeters long. This plant blooms from March through June.

Note: The original description states the fruit is 15 to 21 centimeters long, which is almost certainly a unit error, so this description retains the measurement range as given in the source.
