About Delias belisama (Cramer, 1779)

This species is Delias belisama (Cramer, 1779). For the nominal form, the primary ground colour of the upper wing surface is white, with distinct black markings. These black markings are most prominent on the wing tips, and also extend along the margins of both wings. Several named varieties of this species differ in their upper wing ground colour: var. belisar Staudinger, 1891 has a brilliant orange upper wing surface; var. atisha Fruhstorfer has a uniformly dark ochre-yellow upper wing surface; var. erubescens Staudinger, 1891 has a reddish tinge to its upper wings. The underside of the wings is patterned with varying combinations of yellow and black, and has a prominent red marking (a streak, spot, or stripe) in Cell 7. The total wingspan of this species ranges from approximately 74 to 84 mm.
