About Delias argenthona (Fabricius, 1793)

Delias argenthona (Fabricius, 1793), also referenced as D. argenthona F. For male individuals: the forewing apex has a broader black suffusion on the upper side than that seen in Delias argenthona fasciata. Red spots on the underside of the hindwing show through to the upper side as rose-coloured markings. Females of this species occur in two distinct forms. One form has an entirely light yellow upper wing surface. The other form, the newly described seminigra form nov., has the entire distal half of the hindwing black. The taxon fragalactea Btlr., which has a red apex to the wing cell and somewhat broader black submarginal bands on the hindwing, may be classified as a seasonal form, or possibly only a casual aberration. This species is found in Australia.
