About Deinopis subrufa L.Koch, 1878

Deinopis subrufa (also referred to as Asianopis subrufa, and commonly called the rufous net-casting spider) is a species of net-casting spider. This species is found in Australia, specifically in the states of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania, and also in New Zealand. It is a nocturnal hunter with excellent eyesight, and captures its prey using a silken net it constructs. Its diet consists of a wide variety of prey including ants, beetles, crickets, and other spiders. Body color of this species can vary, ranging from fawn to pinkish brown or chocolate brown. Adult females have an average body length of about 25 mm, while adult males have an average body length of about 22 mm. This species is not dangerous to humans. Individuals are commonly found occupying a few strands of web in forest, woodland and heathland habitats, or on flat surfaces such as the exterior walls of houses.
