About Deinandra lobbii (Greene) Greene
Deinandra lobbii is an annual herb that grows up to 70 centimeters (28 inches) tall. It produces numerous flower heads arranged in a showy cluster. Each flower head contains 3, occasionally 4, yellow ray florets, plus 3, occasionally 4, disc florets that have yellow corollas and red or dark purple anthers. This plant is endemic to California, where it has a discontinuous disjunct distribution. It has been recorded in three separate areas of the state: the northeast, including Modoc, Lassen, and Shasta Counties; the San Francisco Bay region, including Solano, Contra Costa, and Alamedas Counties; and the west-central region, including Monterey, San Benito, and northern San Luis Obispo Counties. Calflora lists one collection from Santa Clara County, but this specimen was collected from the central campus of Stanford University, so it is most likely a cultivated individual.
