About Davidsonia pruriens F.Muell.

Davidsonia pruriens F.Muell., commonly called ooray, Davidson's plum, or Queensland Davidson's plum, is a medium-sized rainforest tree native to northern Queensland, Australia. It has large compound leaves. Its edible dark burgundy fruit grows in large clusters, emerging either from branches or from the trunk, depending on the form of the tree. At least two distinct forms of the species are recognized, and it has been suggested that one of these forms is actually an undescribed separate species. The indigenous common name ooray is increasingly used by the tree's growers and processors. This species grows in multiple types of wetter primary rainforests, occurring at elevations ranging from sea level up to 1,000 metres. It is cultivated on a limited scale for its sour fruit, which is used to make jam, sauces, cordial, and wine. The fruit has high antioxidant activity.
