About Datisca glomerata (C.Presl) Baill.
Datisca glomerata (C.Presl) Baill., commonly known as Durango root, is a plant species native to California, Nevada, and Baja California. It belongs to the plant family Datiscaceae, which contains only two to four species in total. This plant is an erect perennial herb with distinctive long, pointed leaves that are often sharply serrated. It is noted to superficially resemble species of the Cannabis genus. Its yellowish green flowers grow in clusters from the leaf axil, the point where the leaf attaches to the stem. Thick stands of this plant can grow into a medium-sized bush. All parts of Datisca glomerata are toxic, it is classified as a noxious weed in some regions, and it has been reported to be poisonous to cattle. It is also a member of the rare group of androdioecious plant species.
