About Dasymutilla pseudopappus (Cockerell, 1895)

Dasymutilla pseudopappus (Cockerell, 1895) is a species of velvet ant that is native to North America. This species is visually similar to three other species in the same genus: Dasymutilla imperialis, Dasymutilla thetis, and Dasymutilla gloriosa, and it overlaps in part of its geographic range with these three species. Originally, D. pseudopappus was classified as a subspecies of D. gloriosa. D. pseudopappus is found in the southwestern region of North America. In Mexico, it occurs in the states of Sinaloa, Sonora, Baja California, Baja California Sur, and Zacatecas. In the United States, it can be found in the Four Corners area, California, and Texas.
