About Dasineura folliculi (Felt, 1908)

Dasineura folliculi is a species of gall midge. It causes galls to form on several goldenrod species in North America. This species was first formally described by Ephraim Porter Felt in 1908. Adult Dasineura folliculi only live for one to three days. They mate near goldenrod plants before laying their eggs between leaves. The larvae of Dasineura folliculi are gregarious, and any number between five and eighty larvae can be found in a single gall. Larvae mature within three to four weeks after hatching.
