About Dascyllus flavicaudus Randall & Allen, 1977
Dascyllus flavicaudus can grow up to 12 centimeters in total length. Individuals of this fish species have a very deep body, with a body height to body length ratio of 1:1.4–1.6. Their body is mostly dark, ranging from blackish-brown to blackish-bluish, except for their yellowish to yellowish-white tail and the bright-colored rear portion of the dorsal fin. The dark edges of their scales form a net-like pattern across the body. This species has 12 dorsal spines, 15–16 dorsal soft rays, 2 anal spines, and 13–14 anal soft rays. During the mating season, males typically become one or two shades darker, and sometimes develop white spots. These damselfish are found in the Eastern Central Pacific, specifically in southeastern Oceania, including the Society Islands, Tuamoto Islands, Pitcairn Islands, and Rapa Nui. The species occasionally enters the aquarium trade. This non-migratory tropical reef-associated species lives in coral and rocky reefs at depths between 3 and 40 meters.
