About Dardanus deformis (H.Milne-Edwards, 1836)

Dardanus deformis, scientifically described by H. Milne-Edwards in 1836, is a species of nocturnal hermit crab commonly called the pale anemone hermit. This species is found across the Indo-Pacific region. It is known for transferring its associated sea anemones from its old shell to a new shell when it moves to a different shell. Dardanus deformis can be kept in home aquariums. Its typical habitat is under dead coral in lagoons, where it lives alongside sea anemones. It occupies low intertidal zones or subtidal zones. Confirmed locations where this species occurs include the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, the Tasman Sea, and the Indo-west Pacific Oceans.
