About Daphnandra tenuipes Perkins

Daphnandra tenuipes, commonly known as socket sassafras or red-flowered socketwood, is a rainforest tree native to eastern Australia. It grows on relatively fertile basaltic and alluvial soils. Its natural range extends from near Boorganna Nature Reserve, close to Taree, New South Wales, north to Springbrook National Park, just across the state border in southern Queensland. This is a small to medium-sized tree, characterized by red new shoots and red flowers. Its leaves are dark green, shaped lanceolate or ovate, and measure 4 to 13 centimetres (1.5 to 5 inches) long by 1.5 to 3 centimetres (0.59 to 1.18 inches) wide. Daphnandra tenuipes was first formally described by J.R. Perkins in 1901, and it retains its original scientific name to this day.
