Damon variegatus, scientifically named Damon variegatus (Perty, 1834), is a species of whip spider belonging to the family Phrynichidae. It is commonly called the common whipspider, also known as the African whip spider. This species is endemic to Southern Africa. Its recorded distribution extends from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Tanzania southward to South Africa and Namibia. In 2005, populations that live west of the Kalahari Desert, in Namibia and southern Angola, were reclassified as the separate species Damon sylviae.
