About Dalbergia odorifera T.C.Chen

Dalbergia odorifera T.C.Chen is a deciduous tree. In the Northern Hemisphere, it begins shedding its leaves around December each year, and stays dormant throughout the entire winter season. This species has two main recorded uses: its wood is used to produce wood products, and the plant is used in folk medicine. The valuable wood from Dalbergia odorifera was used to make Chinese furniture dating back to the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. Modern new furniture made in these same historical styles from this wood is sought after as a luxury, high-prestige item. Four chemical compounds isolated from the root of this plant have demonstrated antioxidant properties in laboratory testing.
