About Cyttaria darwinii Berk.

The scientific name of this species is Cyttaria darwinii Berk. Originally, mycologist Miles Joseph Berkeley described the genus Cyttaria in 1842. Species in the genus Cyttaria have orange, porous ascomata. Each ascomata is made up of multiple apothecia that are immersed in a gelatinous stroma. The asci are 8-spored, inoperculate, and amyloid. Cyttaria grows exclusively in the Southern Hemisphere, and is commonly found in southern Chile, Argentina, New Zealand, and Australia. Its distribution matches the distribution of Nothofagus.
