About Cystopteris bulbifera (L.) Bernh.
Cystopteris bulbifera (L.) Bernh. is a low-growing rock fern with creeping stems and narrow, elongated deltate fronds that reach up to 75 cm (30 in) in length. It is unusual among ferns for producing bulblets along the lower surface of its fronds, and it is one of the easiest Cystopteris species to identify. This fern is native to eastern Canada, the Midwestern and Eastern United States, with two disjunct populations in the Southwestern United States. It grows exclusively on calcareous substrates such as limestone, and commonly covers limestone cave openings. While it is most often found on vertical rock faces, it also grows in rocky scree.
