About Cyphononyx fulvognathus (Rohwer, 1911)
Cyphononyx fulvognathus is an insect species belonging to the genus Cyphononyx. It was first formally described by Sievert Allen Rohwer in 1911. This species is a solitary wasp that occurs in Southeast Asia, specifically across the region spanning Japan, Taiwan, and southern China. Within Japan, it is the only known species from the genus Cyphononyx. Female individuals of this species have a body length ranging from 17.0 to 26.1 mm (0.67 to 1.03 inches), and a forewing length ranging from 15.1 to 22.0 mm (0.59 to 0.87 inches). Males are distinctly smaller than females, with a body length between 10.5 and 18.9 mm (0.41 and 0.74 inches), and a forewing length between 10.9 and 17.6 mm (0.43 and 0.69 inches). The originally documented distribution of Cyphononyx fulvognathus extends from Japan, through Taiwan, to southern China. Crowdsourced recent observations have confirmed this existing range and also recorded the species in South Korea.
