Cyperus laxus Lam. is a species of sedge that belongs to the family Cyperaceae. It is native to tropical areas of the Western Hemisphere, where its range extends from central Mexico and the West Indies south to Argentina. It is also native to Africa, with a range spanning from Liberia to Zimbabwe and Tanzania. Reports note that the species has become naturalized in Assam and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
