About Cynarospermum asperrimum (Nees) Vollesen
Cynarospermum asperrimum (Nees) Vollesen is a species of flowering plant in the family Acanthaceae. It is the only species in the genus Cynarospermum. It is a scrambling or trailing perennial subshrub that is endemic to the Western Ghats of western India. It grows with multiple branches, and stems that can reach up to 1 meter long. Stems are able to root when they come into contact with soil. It flowers during the monsoon and post-monsoon seasons, and attracts multiple butterfly species for pollination. It is locally common across the foothills and hill ranges of the Western Ghats in the Indian states of southern Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka. It grows abundantly in partly-shaded, moist locations, including shrub savannas, forest edges, partly-shaded roadsides, and bunds between agricultural fields. It can be easily cultivated in pots and gardens.
