About Cymatophorina diluta (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1776
Cymatophorina is a monotypic moth genus in the family Drepanidae, first described by Arnold Spuler in 1908. This genus contains only one species: Cymatophorina diluta, commonly known as the oak lutestring or lesser lutestring. The species was first described by Michael Denis and Ignaz Schiffermüller in 1775. It is distributed across most of Europe, and a subspecies, Cymatophorina diluta hartwiegi, is found in Britain. The wingspan of adult Cymatophorina diluta ranges from 33 to 36 mm. This species is univoltine, meaning it produces only one brood per year. Adult moths are in flight between late July and early October, with the flight period varying by location. The British subspecies Cymatophorina diluta hartwiegi flies specifically in August and September. The larvae of this species feed on oak tree leaves.
