About Cylindromyia bicolor (Olivier, 1811)
Cylindromyia bicolor (Olivier, 1811) is a small fly species that reaches an adult body length of 11–14 millimetres (0.43–0.55 inches). Individuals of this species have a grayish thorax and a very elongated, cylindrical red abdomen. The abdomen features a black longitudinal band at its base, and discal bristles are present on tergites 2 through 4. The large compound eyes of Cylindromyia bicolor are dark brown. Wings are partly darkened, large calyptra are white, and legs are black. This species has been recorded in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Corsica, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Macedonia, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Kazakhstan, Iran, Russia, and Transcaucasia. Cylindromyia bicolor mainly inhabits dry meadows, bushes, wood edges, marshes, parks, and gardens.
