About Cydia splendana (Hübner, 1796-1799)
Cydia splendana, commonly called the chestnut tortrix, is a moth species belonging to the family Tortricidae. This species is native to Europe. It is also sometimes known as the acorn moth, though this common name is also used for Blastobasis glandulella, a North American moth that belongs to the more primitive family Blastobasidae. The wingspan of adult Cydia splendana ranges from 12 to 16 mm. Adult moths fly between May and September, with the flight period varying based on the specific location. The larvae of this moth feed on oak and sweet chestnut, and may also feed on species from the Juglans genus. Larval development most often occurs inside mature chestnut fruits.
