About Cyclosa mulmeinensis (Thorell, 1887)
Cyclosa mulmeinensis (Thorell, 1887) is a small to medium-sized orb-weaver spider that has prominent sexual dimorphism in both body size and coloration. On Orchid Island, which lies off the southeast coast of Taiwan, this species creates web decorations that match the spider itself in size and appearance. These decorations work as decoys to distract predatory wasps. This species has a broad distribution across Asia, ranging from India to East Asia, including Japan and Taiwan. It has been recorded in multiple countries: Myanmar, India, China, Japan, Bangladesh, Singapore, the Philippines, and across various islands of the Ryukyu Islands.
