About Cyclonaias pustulosa (I.Lea, 1831)

Cyclonaias pustulosa, commonly called the pimpleback, is a species of freshwater mussel. It is an aquatic bivalve mollusk that belongs to Unionidae, the family of river mussels. This species is native to North America, where it has a widespread distribution and is generally common. However, NatureServe records indicate the species may have been completely extirpated from New York, and its existing populations in Pennsylvania are classified as critically imperiled. This species was previously grouped under the genus Quadrula. In 2012, it was reclassified and moved to the genus Rotundaria on the basis of genetic evidence.
