About Cyclocybe erebia (Fr.) Vizzini & Matheny
Cyclocybe erebia (Fr.) Vizzini & Matheny has a cap that ranges in color from light to dark brown. Cap is viscid (slimy) when wet, measures 1.5 to 5 centimetres (5โ8 to 2 inches) in diameter; younger individuals have very round caps. The cap edge is often frilled or wrinkled, and is paler in color than the rest of the cap. Decurrent gills grow underneath the cap. They start whitish, and turn brown as the mushroom matures. The stipe is whitish, turning brown with age; it is 2.5โ8 cm (1โ3+1โ8 inches) long and 3โ10 millimetres (1โ8โ3โ8 inches) thick. Young specimens have a partial veil that covers the hymenium. This veil later separates from the cap margin, sometimes leaving a white ring behind. Its whitish to brown flesh does not change color when cut or bruised. This species produces a brown spore print. This species is found across the Americas, Europe, and parts of Oceania. It grows on moist ground; in most of North America, it can be found from August to October, while on the North American West Coast it appears from September to December.
