This species is distributed across Bangladesh, the terai region of Mizoram, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, West Borneo, Sumatra, and Java. A subspecific taxon, Cyclemys oldhami shanensis, is sometimes treated as a separate species because of its distinctive shell pattern, which is often described as looking similar to aged meat.
