About Cyclamen repandum subsp. rhodense (Meikle) Grey-Wilson
Cyclamen repandum grows in rocky areas, shrubland, and woodland near the Mediterranean, ranging from southeastern France through Italy to Serbia, and is also found on Corsica, Sardinia, and Sicily. Tubers of the C. repandum group only produce roots from the center of the tuber's bottom. The leaves are dark green with a lighter arrowhead pattern, and are not speckled. Flowers are deep carmine-pink or white, and do not have a darker colored area at the mouth. Unlike Cyclamen hederifolium, the flowers of this species lack auricles. In cultivation, Cyclamen repandum is a deciduous plant with a UK hardiness rating of H4, meaning it is hardy through most of the UK and can withstand temperatures between −5 and −10 °C (23 to 14 °F). It requires partial shade and can grow in chalk, clay, sand, or loam soil. It tolerates any soil pH, including acid, alkaline, and neutral. Cyclamen repandum reaches an ultimate height of 10 cm (3.9 in), and takes 2 to 5 years to grow to this full height. The subspecies C. repandum subsp. repandum (wavy-edged cyclamen) has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit, a status confirmed in 2017.
