About Cycladenia humilis Benth.
Cycladenia humilis Benth. is the only species in the monotypic genus Cycladenia. Its common name is Sacramento waxydogbane, and it is an uncommon plant native to the southwestern United States. Most collections of this species come from California, though it has also been reported in Utah and Arizona. It grows mainly on gypsum soils, and occurs at some elevation across several mountain ranges in this region. Out of the four recognized varieties of Cycladenia humilis, the variety Jones cycladenia is classified as a threatened taxon. Cycladenia humilis is a fleshy perennial herb. It has dull green leaves and pinkish lavender flowers. The flowers start out as rolled tubes shaped like pea pods, then open into colorful funnel-shaped blooms.
