Cyanoplax hartwegii, first described by P. P. Carpenter in 1856, can reach a length of about 30.8 millimetres, which is 1.21 inches. Individuals of this chiton species are red-brown, with a dark gray girdle. The surface of their valves is most commonly grayish green with dark markings. This species is found in the Eastern Pacific, with occurrences in Alaska, Mexico, and the USA. These molluscs live in habitats ranging from the intertidal zone to the shallow subtidal zone.
