About Cyanoloxia brissonii (Lichtenstein & Mhc, 1823)

Cyanoloxia brissonii, commonly known as the ultramarine grosbeak, measures 15 cm in length. Adult males have dark-blue plumage with bright-blue upper wings, while females and juveniles are brown. This species is territorial and does not fly in flocks; if one male enters another's territory, a violent conflict will certainly occur. These birds inhabit the edges of swamps, secondary forests, and plantations. Their native range stretches from northeastern and central Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay to Argentina, and they can also be found in northern Venezuela and Colombia. Subspecies from different regions show some morphological differences.
