About Cuthonella concinna (Alder & Hancock, 1843)
Cuthonella concinna is a species originally described by Alder & Hancock in 1843. Typical adult individuals of this species reach 10 to 12 millimeters in size. This species was first formally described from a specimen collected at Whitley Bay, Northumberland, England. It has been recorded across multiple ocean regions: in the Northeast Atlantic, it ranges from Finmarken, Norway south to Normandy, France; it has also been reported in the Northwest Atlantic off New England, in the Northeast Pacific near Vancouver Island, Canada, and from Iceland. Within Britain and Ireland, it is considered a northern species, found at Skomer Island in Pembrokeshire, in the Irish Sea, and throughout Scotland. Cuthonella concinna lives in habitats where it feeds on the hydroid Sertularia argentea, which belongs to the family Sertulariidae.
