About Cuphea lanceolata W.T.Aiton

Cuphea lanceolata W.T.Aiton grows to an average height of 45–60 centimetres (18–24 inches). It produces a branched stem that bears opposite, narrow leaves up to 7 centimetres long. Its flowers are tubular, colored dark lilac or cherry-red, and have six petals total. The two upper petals are large and ear-shaped, while the remaining four petals are quite small. Its flowering season runs from June through August, and it produces a capsule as its fruit. This species is native to northern and central Mexico. As a tropical plant, it prefers hot, humid conditions, and grows best in rich, well-drained soil located in full sun.
