About Cupha erymanthis (Drury, 1773)

Cupha erymanthis, commonly known as the rustic, is a species of brush-footed butterfly. It occurs in forested regions of tropical South Asia and Southeast Asia. Adult males and females of this species look identical. The caterpillars of the rustic primarily feed on plant species belonging to the family Flacourtiaceae. Recorded host plants from this family include Flacourtia montana, F. ramontchii, F. rukam, Xylosma racemosa, and Scolopia species. They also feed on Glochidion eriocarpum and Lepisanthes rubiginosum. Adult rustic butterflies sometimes visit carrion to drink its fluids. They tend to prefer carcasses located in open, sunny areas over those that are in shaded spots.
