About Cucullia calendulae Treitschke, 1835

Cucullia calendulae Treitschke, 1835 is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. It has a wide distribution across all areas of the Mediterranean Basin, ranging from northern Africa to Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Transcaucasus, Turkmenistan, Iran and Afghanistan. This species is very similar in appearance to Cucullia chamillae, so genitalia preparations are required to accurately identify it. Adult moths are active from November to April, and the species produces one generation per year. Its larvae feed on species in the plant family Asteraceae, including the genera Calendula, Achillea, Anthemis and Ormenis. In Egypt, larvae have been recorded feeding on Chrysanthemum coronarium.
