About Ctenus captiosus Gertsch, 1935
Ctenus captiosus Gertsch, 1935, measured by body length excluding legs, has a range of 10โ14 mm (0.39โ0.55 in) for males and 10โ15 mm (0.39โ0.59 in) for females. Its maximum leg span can reach 75 mm (3.0 in). Its abdomen is yellow-gray, with a pale median band formed by a series of connected triangles that are bordered by brown. The dorsal surfaces of its legs match the dark color of the carapace, while the undersides of the legs and the sternum are much paler, nearly yellow. This species prefers mesic habitats. It is most commonly observed in spring, likely because individuals search for mates as temperatures rise. It can typically be found in oak and pine trees, leaf litter, and caves. It has also been recorded in large numbers in pond pine and sand pine scrub during summer, and in flatwoods during fall.
