About Ctenocephalides felis (Bouché, 1835)
Scientific name: Ctenocephalides felis (Bouché, 1835)
Morphology: Adult C. felis have fully developed genal ctenidia and pronotal ctenidia. The head of C. felis is longer than that of C. canis.
Life cycle: Cat fleas are holometabolous insects, meaning they undergo complete metamorphosis. They progress through four distinct life cycle stages: egg, larva, pupa, and imago (adult). Adult fleas must feed on blood before they can reproduce. In typical flea populations, approximately 50% of individuals are eggs, 35% are larvae, 10% are pupae, and 5% are adults. Cat fleas can live up to two years.
