About Ctenicera virens (Schrank, 1781)
Ctenicera virens (Schrank, 1781) is a species of click beetle. Adults of this species reach a body length of approximately 15–21 mm (0.59–0.83 in). These are large, colorful click beetles with yellowish or reddish-brown elytra. They may be entirely monochrome, or display a green-bronzed marking just before the tip of the elytra. The head and pronotum are a brilliant metallic green. The sides of the pronotum are quite heavily dotted. Males have strongly combed antennae, while females have saw-toothed antennae starting from the third antennal segment. This species is distributed across Central Europe, the Alps, the Carpathian Mountains, the Balkan Peninsula, Crimea, and the Nearctic realm. It has been recorded in Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Northern Italy, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Ukraine. Ctenicera virens typically lives in mountainous and submontane areas, river and stream valleys, and moist mid-forest clearings. These beetles can be found on grasses and flowers in grasslands and glades.
