About Crypturellus tataupa (Temminck, 1815)

The tataupa tinamou (Crypturellus tataupa) is approximately 25 cm (9.8 in) long. Its upper body parts are dark brown, with a dark brown crown and a pale grey throat. The sides of its head, neck, and breast are a darker grey, and it has a buff belly. Its bill and legs are purplish red. The tataupa tinamou prefers dry forest habitats up to 1,400 m (4,600 ft) in altitude. It can also be found in lowland moist forest and degraded former forest habitats. This species is native to South America, where it occurs in northeastern Brazil, eastern Bolivia, northern Argentina, Paraguay and western Peru. It has also been sighted in extreme southern Ecuador.
