About Crypturellus soui (Hermann, 1783)
The little tinamou, scientifically named Crypturellus soui (Hermann, 1783), has an overall length of approximately 21.4 to 24 cm (8.4–9.4 in). Males weigh around 207 g (7.3 oz), while females weigh between 174 and 238 g (6.1–8.4 oz); females are slightly larger and heavier than males. This species has unbarred sooty-brown plumage that transitions to grey on the head, and its foreneck is whitish. The underside of both males and females is cinnamon buff, with females showing a lighter shade. Their legs can be grey, olive, or yellow, and both sexes are almost tailless. Females are usually more brightly colored, while males tend to be darker and less rufescent. The little tinamou is a resident breeder found in tropical lowland forests, rivers-edge forests, lowland evergreen forest, secondary forest, and lowland shrublands at altitudes up to 2,000 m (6,600 ft). It also adapts fairly successfully to cleared forests, plantations, and farmed land.
